Today is the last day for my #shoplocal feature, I can’t believe it’s the end of November already! I truly hope you’ve enjoyed the vendors and shops shared for the past 25 days as much as I’ve loved putting them … Continue reading
Today is all about candles. I LOVE a good quality candle, especially around the holidays. The smell, the glow and the flicker and sound of the flame.
Coal and Canary Candle Company was started in Winnipeg, Manitoba by two pals, Tom and Amanda. Via email and the internet, they are so much fun and I cannot wait until the day I can actually meet up with them both and share a cocktail.
Over a glass of wine one night, they realized there was a gap in the Canadian market for well-made candles that cater to hip, young professionals so they jumped right in. And even if you’re not a hip, young professional I know you’ll still love them. The designs, scents and packaging are so beautiful I had a very hard time actually lighting them up.
And you read right. I said the sound of the flame. All their candles are hand-poured in small batches and made with wooden wicks that flicker, crack and pop just like real wood. I am a wood fireplace LOVER so for me, it’s not just lighting a candle to make your house smell like cookies or cover the scent of the piles of clothes accumulating in your laundry room, it’s a complete experience with Coal and Canary; they burn exquisitely. I’ve had my hands on their brand new holiday line for the past two weeks and once they’re burnt out I will definitely be ordering more.
There’s Ginger Bell Rock, a festive blend of ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla; All I Want Fir Xmas, a joyous mix of fir, orange, cranberry and cinnamon; and May Your Days Be Minty and Bright, a merry pairing of strawberry, peppermint and vanilla. All three of them smell incredible!
There’s plenty of other candles in their line and they all have fun names that make you want to show off the labels. To name a few, Chunky Knit Sweater, Big Hair & Fresh Air, Don’t Be Chai and Vodka Crans and Elastic Waistbands. SO. MUCH. FUN.
They have well surpassed 50 stockists all across Canada and now into the United States and are just barely over their first year in business which is amazing progress; congrats to you C+C! All of their stockists are listed online and if you don’t see one that’s close to you, you can order directly through them on their website. For more great photos, check them out on Instagram and Facebook, I know they’re definitely being included on my gift giving list this year.
A NOTE TO MY READERS: I want to reiterate that every one of these shops and artists have been selected by me to participate in my #shoplocal campaign. I am receiving NO GRATUITIES OR FREEBIES for these shout outs and want to keep it that way! I love all these places and what they offer and am sharing them to make my readers lives easier and promote local shopping in my area.
